Budget-Friendly Air Fryer Chickpeas: 15-Minute Single-Serve Snack

  • Author: Marissa
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A quick, crispy, and affordable snack made from canned chickpeas, olive oil, and spices. This gluten-free and vegan recipe is ready in just 15 minutes and costs pennies per serving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz / 425g) chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin or chili powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly under cold water to remove starchy liquid. Pick out any broken pieces or skins.
  2. Spread the chickpeas on a kitchen towel or paper towels and pat them dry thoroughly. Let them air dry for a few minutes to ensure maximum crispiness.
  3. Place the dried chickpeas in a small mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and optional spices.
  4. Toss the chickpeas well to ensure they are evenly coated in a thin layer of oil and spices.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  6. Add the chickpeas to the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not crowded.
  7. Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  8. Check the chickpeas after 10 minutes; they are done when golden brown and hard when shaken.
  9. Remove from the air fryer and let cool for 2-3 minutes to crisp up further before serving.

Notes

The most critical step is drying the chickpeas thoroughly; wet chickpeas will not crisp up. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket, as this causes steaming instead of roasting. If your air fryer runs hot, check the chickpeas at the 12-minute mark to prevent burning. Store leftovers in a paper bag or loosely covered container at room temperature for up to 2 days; avoid plastic containers as they trap moisture.
